In addition to the standalone installation, there is a Symfony bundle, which lets you use the Mongrate commands by running your app/console (bin/console in Symfony3).

In your Symfony application directory, run:

composer require amyboyd/mongrate-bundle

Add the bundle to registerBundles() method of AppKernel:

# app/AppKernel.php

class AppKernel extends Kernel
    public function registerBundles()
        $bundles = array(
            new Mongrate\MongrateBundle\MongrateBundle(),

Set your configuration in your application’s config.yml:

    mongodb_server: 'mongodb://localhost:27017'
    mongodb_db: my_database
    migrations_directory: "%kernel.root_dir%/../migrations"

As always, you can use settings from parameters.yml with %...%. For example:

    mongodb_server: %mongodb_server%
    mongodb_db: %mongodb_db%_prod

The only difference to using the standalone installation is that instead of running, for example, mongrate list-migrations, when using the bundle you should run app/console mongrate:list-migrations.

See the commands available by running app/console list mongrate

Dependency Injection Container

For some migrations you may need to access Symfony DI Container and fetch some services.

In order to do so, mark a migration as implementing ContainerAwareInterface and use ContainerAwareTrait. The Mongrate will consider it and inject the container into the migration. Then you can access the container in both up and down methods.

namespace Mongrate\Migrations;

use Mongrate\Migration\Migration as MigrationHelper;
use Doctrine\MongoDB\Database;
use Symfony\Component\DependencyInjection\ContainerAwareInterface;
use Symfony\Component\DependencyInjection\ContainerAwareTrait;

class ContainerAwareExample_20160623 implements ContainerAwareInterface
    use MigrationHelper;
    use ContainerAwareTrait;
    public function up(Database $db)
        $userService = $this->container->get('user.service');

If you, for any reason, don’t want to use ContainerAwareTrait, feel free to implement the ContainerAwareInterface manually, it will not deliver any difference.
